Life on the most southernmost Islands of Japan has ancient animistic roots. The connection between the natural and spiritual worlds creates a complex understanding and respect for all life.
These polaroids depict sacred places where one can travel meet with the other realm, ancestors, connect to the spirits of forests and rocks, and/or where water flows. These places are filled with meaning for the local people The rocks appear to be inanimate but speak of bonds between the past and present. The universe and the elements that shaped them. They speak to me of the relationship between all things embedded in an infinite process of change.
